Foxton Beach, your next holiday destination. The beach offers great swimming in the summer months, and slowly drops off into deep water so there's plenty of safe paddling space for the youngsters in your family.

For the more active traveller, there is surfing, kite surfing, stand up paddle boarding, and four-wheel drive tracks. There is also great hiking along the coast and in the nearby Tararua Ranges.

Fishing at Foxton Beach

Foxton Beach is also a popular fishing spot where Kahawai, Snapper, Groper, Gurnard, Flounder and Sole are the most common catches. You will also see Whitebaiters in the estuary.

Foxton Beach offers more than just swimming. The Beach is wide and sandy, and allows plenty of room for all your favourite beach activities including Land Yachts, Fishing, Kite Surfing, and Stand Up Paddle Boarding to name a few.

De Molen Dutch Windmill

De Molen Dutch Windmill

De Molen is a replica 17th Century Dutch windmill in the township of Foxton that makes stone ground flour onsite, has a shop and provides tours to visitors.

Their stone grinding process produces little heat, so the nutrients are locked in - nothing added and nothing taken. Buckwheat, rye, wholemeal wheat and corn flours are all made onsite. The volunteers who staff the windmill are happy to share their cooking knowledge, and there are recipes and pre-mixes available.

Located at the Tram Station Tearooms, Main Street. Enjoy a scenic and educational trip as you ride through the historic streets of Foxton.The Tram can be booked for group tours, private functions and events. Usually operating Sundays.

There is superb bird-watching at Manawatu river estuary, where up to 38 species of migratory birds can visit, including Royal spoonbills, shearwaters, petrels, grey teals, sandpipers, godwits, terns and wrybills. A viewing platform overlooking the estuary is situated at the end of Dawick Street, Foxton Beach.

MAVTECH Audio Visual Museum

MAVTECH Audio Visual Museum

Located in Avenue Road, North end of Main Street. This museum houses one of the most extensive collections of audio and visual equipment. This museum is usually open on Weekend afternoons and may also be booked for private tours.

Warm up in winter at the Foxton Heated Pools! Located at Easton Park, Main Street. Contains a 33 metre outdoor pool, 25 metre indoor pool and a toddlers playpool. Children under 8 must be actively supervised by a caregiver 16 years or over.

Open Monday to Friday 6am to 6pm. Sat & Sun 10am to 6pm
Public Holidays 1pm to 6pm

Walking & Cycle Tracks

Nature abounds around Foxton Beach, with endless outdoor experiences including walkways, cycleways, tramping tracks in the Tararua Forest Park and the chance to see some of the world’s rarest wildlife, including takahe and tuatara.
